This is the first of three units of study in the B.Ed (Primary) teaching program that focuses on Human Society and its Environment (HSIE). HSIE is a Key Learning Area of the K-6 curriculum that provides opportunities for primary students to learn about cultural identity and cultural diversity. We will examine relevant policies that emphasise the need for K-12 teachers to engage their students in real life contexts beyond the classroom and explore how primary teachers find links and develop networks in the local community. This unit offers practical opportunities for primary teaching students to build knowledge and understanding of intercultural understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.
