Prerequisites: 48 credit points of Master of Teaching units including (EDMT5673, EDMT5623, EDMT5500 and EDMT5502)

Classes: 1x3-hr seminar/wk for 10wks except during the period of professional experience teaching. Attendance at a two day workshop on therapeutic approaches to mental health issues in children and young people is also required.

Assessment: 2000wd presentaion and handout (50%) and pamphlets (3x14%) and bibliography (8%) in specified mental health area (3000wd total)

This unit of study is designed to introduce the students to issues and concepts related to counselling children and adolescents within the school setting. The focus will be on accurate assessment of the concerns and the development of therapeutic and intervention plans appropriate for students within the educational environment.
