This unit of study examines issues relevant to teaching in secondary schools. The unit begins with a series of lectures on issues such as making the transition to 'becoming a teacher', the role of popular culture in teacher identity, teaching standards, teacher professionalism and classroom management. The latter half of the unit focuses on the health and wellbeing of students, with a particular emphasis on school sport and the role of teachers during sport. The unit also provides an overview of the PDHPE syllabuses, the Health Promoting Schools concept, as well as an array of contemporary youth health issues of relevance to teachers in secondary schools.
