The works of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes and Menander have a performance tradition in antiquity of nearly a thousand years and remain the enduring classics of the modern theatre. This unit offers a close reading in the original Greek of one or more Greek plays and an introduction to the literary, social and performance contexts of the ancient theatre, its language and its genres.This unit is available as a designated ‘Advanced’ unit to students enrolled in the BA (Advanced) degree program.
