This unit of study is intended for postgraduate students who wish to undertake an introductory unit on research methodologies rather than specialize in a single methodology. Students will be introduced to biostatistics, epidemiology and qualitative research methodologies and to the fundamentals of research ethics in relation to medical and health research.
This unit will be problem-based. By solving real research problems and engaging in joint research planning, students will learn about the specific contribution of biostatistics, epidemiology and qualitative research methodologies and how they can be integrated in a research project. Practical implications of research ethics will be explored at each stage. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on ways in which these methods and ethical considerations apply to their own research
