This unit of study presents a historical and institutional perspective on the development of the capitalist world economy since 1945. The analysis starts with a historical and theoretical introduction covering the determinants of profits and accumulation and the role of external markets in economic growth. It then addresses key issues in this development including: the formation of the international monetary system and its crisis following the end of the long boom; and the global role of the United States and the formation of growth poles in Europe and in Asia.As part of the 2014 curriculum review this unit of study has been replaced by ECOP2613. This unit of study will not be offered again.
